Tennis

Tennis is a racket sport that can be played individually against a single opponent (singles) or between two teams of two players each (doubles). The game is played on a rectangular court divided by a net. Players use a stringed racket to hit a lightweight ball, known as a tennis ball, over the net and into the opponent’s court, aiming to score points by making the ball land in a designated area on the opponent’s side.

The objective of tennis is to win sets by securing a predetermined number of games, and to win the match by winning a series of sets. Scoring in tennis is unique, proceeding from zero to fifteen, thirty, forty, and then to game point, with specific rules regarding deuce and advantage points.

Tennis is characterized by its fast-paced action, strategic gameplay, and the physical exertion required from players. It is played on various surfaces, including grass, clay, and hard court, each affecting the game’s play style. Tennis has a global following, with major tournaments such as Wimbledon, the US Open, the French Open, and the Australian Open representing the sport’s elite competitive levels.
